Le Fraghe

Veneto, Italy

Owned by the very talented Matilde Poggi, it has been a consistent ‘tre bicchieri’ winner over the past three years, one of only two from Bardolino in the current edition of the Italian wine guide, Gambero Rosso.

Listening to the vines

Matilde Poggi, "grows the grapes and makes the wine" at Le Fraghe in Cavaion Veronese, in the heart of the Bardolino wine production zone.

"This world, marked by the changing of the seasons, has always fascinated me, and slowly the desire grew to become part of it, to contribute to it, to learn how to listen to the vineyard, and to create my own wines.”

The Mount, the Lake and the River

The terroir in Le Fraghe benefits from Monte Baldo rising to the north, Lake Garda with its unique Mediterranean climate and the Valdadige that brings the cools winds.

"I love this land, every square metre of it somehow different, brought here by the glaciers that carved out the bed of the lake and the valley of the Adige River. Everything I do in the vineyard is aimed at respecting and preserving the unique and incomparable qualities I find only in my wines."

The Wine

Matilde started making wine in 1984 and became certified organic in 2009. With a focus on local grape varietals like Corvina, Rondinella and Garganega, the Le Fraghe Bardolino is a blend that has been balanced to the perfect ratio of Matilde's vineyards: 80% Corvina and 20% Rondinella.

On the capsules of Le Fraghe wines you can see the FIVI brand, the federation group representing Italian Independent Winegrowers that work solely on their own production: grow their vines, vinify their grapes, bottle their wines and sell their wine directly.
